(HARARE) – A couple attacked by a crocodile who had married days later in a Zimbabwean hospital where the bride recovered after losing an arm.
"In a week we went from shock and agony to a truly amazing experience," 27-year-old Jamie Fox told Monday the Associated Press.
Fox and his then fiancee, Zanele Ndlovu, were canoeists on the Zambezi, one of the longest rivers in Africa, when a crocodile attacked them on April 30. Zenele lost her right arm and suffered injuries to her left hand. Five days later, they got married in a hospital band.
"We were glad that we still had our lives and were able to meet our wedding date, even though we were dealing with a much smaller venue ̵
He described the wedding as "unbelievable".
Victoria Falls Guide, a travel site, describes how canoeing on the Zambezi River over Victoria Falls "is the perfect activity for those who want to see not only the abundance of bird and animal life, but also the peace, tranquility and beauty of the Zambezi want to experience. "
For the couple, the experience turned into a terrible incident.
"I screamed, trying to save her, she did not complain of pain when we managed to pull her out of the water, maybe because of the shock, we were hoping the doctors would save her arm, but that should not be, "said Fox, adding that the couple had been dating for about 18 months.
"I suggested in February that we hope to settle in the US so we will sort out their visa and then we will think about the honeymoon," he said.
Zanele was released from hospital on Monday.
