HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) – A couple attacked by a crocodile who had married days later in a Zimbabwean hospital where the bride recovered after losing an arm.
"One week from shock and agony, we had a truly amazing experience," said 27-year-old Jamie Fox on Monday to the Associated Press.
Fox and his fiancee at the time, Zanele Ndlovu, were canoeists on the Zambezi, one of the longest rivers in Africa, as a crocodile. They attacked them on April 30. Zenele lost her right arm and suffered injuries to her left hand. Five days later, they got married in a hospital band.
"We were glad we still had our lives and managed to meet our wedding date, even though we were dealing with a much smaller venue ̵
He described the wedding as "unbelievable".
Victoria Falls Guide, a travel site, describes canoeing on the Zambezi River above Victoria Falls as a perfect activity for those who not only want to see abundant bird and animal life, but also experience the peace, tranquility and beauty of the Zambezi want.
For the couple, experience has become a terrible event.
"I screamed and tried to save her. She did not complain of pain when we managed to pull her out of the water, maybe because of the shock. We were hoping the doctors would save her arm, but that should not be, "Fox said, adding that the couple had dated for about 18 months.
" I suggested in February. We hope we settle in the UK, so we'll sort out their visa and then we'll think about the honeymoon, "he said.
Zanele was released from hospital on Monday.
This story was corrected to show that the correct spelling of the bride's name is Zanele
