The San Diego Padres acquired first baseman Jander Alonso in a deal with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.
The priest will send money to the brave to complete the transaction.
Alonso, the son of Padres third baseman Manny Machado, returned to Santiago, where he played from 2012 to 2015. This is also the city where Machado and Alonso’s sister went home from vacation.
Machado said after Padres beat the Dodgers 6-2 on Tuesday: “I am absolutely happy that my brother can join the same team.”
Alonso was placed on the Brave’s restricted list after failing to report to their backup training website. He will report to the Padres alternate location at the University of San Diego.
