In the past few years, Microsoft has been trying to win the favor of Japanese audiences. This week, they tried some new ads to promote Xbox Game Pass.
The Japanese branch of Xbox teamed up with popular virtual YouTubers Shishiro Botan and Himemori Luna to advertise, showcasing the benefits and features of Game Pass (including the recently acquired Bethesda) and the gameplay horizon of Gears 5, Control, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Forza 4.
Shishiro Botan is part of the popular Hololive vTuber agency. Belonging to the fifth generation, she is a relatively novice. Only after her debut in August 2020, she quickly gained popularity, and the number of subscribers on the channel currently exceeds 700,000.
The video stream has 106,845 views, and the audience must have liked it, with more than 10,000 likes and 52 of them disliked it.
Himemori Luna is from the fourth generation of Hololive and debuted in January 2020. She has more than 500,000 subscribers and 108,769 people have watched her video stream, and currently there are more than 11,000 likes and 46 dislikes.
Attracting foreign players is certainly not a good idea to attract Japanese gamers. We should not forget that Xbox One was once a very popular platform among visual novel developers today. In addition, Shishiro Botan’s appearance and style are suitable for Xbox to some extent.
