WWE SmackDown Results, Summary, Sheet Music: Money in the bank starts with enthusiasm

SmackDown adds money to the bank

The Miz def. Jeff Hardy via Pinfall : In a long, entertaining opening game following a promo by General Manager Paige, the former Intercontinental Champion earned the victory over the current United States Champion. The goal was just as entertaining as the game itself. Hardy landed the Swanton bomb on The Miz, but just when he thought he had the slight cover from there, Miz Hardy surprised with a crucifix-pinning combination to endure the win ,

Charlotte Flair discusses submission with Peyton Royce : While Billie Kay tried to steal her IIconics partner from the outside, Flair became the women's money-in-the-bank ladder match after Royce had quickly clicked on the eight.

Rusev def. Daniel Bryan via Pinfall : In what will surely be a shock to many, Rusev brought the clear 1-2-3 to Bryan after a machka kick. Throughout the game, they played out the punches Bryan had endured in recent weeks through Big Cass, and they played them up to the stunning clean finish.

Without question, the night's best match was the opening kick that showed Hardy and Miz. And in this case, it was absolutely the right choice to have Miz, who is playing good matches again and again recently, in the ladder match as he begins to penetrate the main event scene on SmackDown. Flair's victory over Royce may not have been as exciting as it could have been, and while it could be argued that winning would have been more beneficial to Royce, at least half of The IIconics still have a chance to get a place in the match Kay. As for Bryan's loss … I probably do not hate it as much as everyone else. They still continue the story with Cass, and frankly, he does not need to rub the money in the bank, no matter what the reason. The match could have been better overall, but I did not hate the Rusev nod here. Rating: B +

AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura Will Continue

Neither WWE Champion Styles nor Nakamura appeared in SmackDown this week, but it became clear that these two are not locked together. Nakamura was the first to do a backstage promo and he hit him out of the park again with his heel character. Renee Young urged him to stop speaking English, and in a funny moment, Nakamura had the pun of the night when he announced that Styles was "crazy." He was the first to reveal his deal with the WWE champion, it was not over yet.

Later in the show, Styles – still with a nasty bruise on his cheek from the chair accident at Backlash – was offered a chance at a refutation. The champion admitted that he had sunk to Nakamura's level on Sunday, but he did what he had to do. He agreed that after the controversial conclusion of Sunday, they are not finished yet, and if Nakamura has the courage to get back in the ring with him, he will finish this time.

The belief after Sunday was that these two square out again, and it looks like we are moving toward the money in the bank. The only question is whether Samoa Joe could somehow fit into the mix after he has already announced that he will come to the WWE championship. But Joe was not there because he was absent after his flawless match against Roman Reigns at Backlash. After playing this Art Nakamura feud for so long, it felt strange to have just short interviews behind the scenes for these two. Class: C

What else happened on SmackDown?

  • Carmella is too good for Baltimore : The SmackDown Women's Champion has repeatedly repeated Charlotte Flair before revealing that she was absent for SmackDown on Tuesday night. However, she will be in London next week for another celebration in her honor – a Royal Mellabration, to be exact.
  • More Money at Bank Promos : Similar to Monday's Raw viewing, we were treated to more pre-recorded Money in the Bank vignettes by people like Asuka, Naomi, Tye Dillinger and Shelton Benjamin.
  • No SanitY or Andrade "Cien" Almas not yet: We have to wait even longer for the debut of the trio, as we received another vignette on Tuesday evening. It has been officially announced that Almas and Zelina Vega will make their debut in London next week.
  • Cesaro def. Xavier Woods via Pinfall : Earlier that night, Sheamus challenged his partner to do something he defeated last week at SmackDown – Woods – did not. Well, the Swiss member of The Bar did just that after hitting Woods with a European uppercut as he got off the ropes.
  • Bludgeon Brothers play with toys: A backstage promo featuring erased toy figures from the SmackDown Tag Team Division. The tag team champions then invited everyone to play.
  • Mandy Rose def. Becky Lynch via Pinfall : Although Sonya Deville was eliminated from the ring before the match, Rose won a clean victory on Tuesday evening's SmackDown debut. After pulling Lynch's throat over the top rope, Rose rolled her opponent up for something that some thought was a shocking win.
