Health officials said on Thursday that parents intend to send children with the coronavirus back to Wisconsin to attend classes, which may cause the school district to suspend classes.
“The health department has been working with the school district since the spring to develop a plan for reopening,” Washington-Ozaki Public Health Director Kirsten Johnson told NBC News. “For one million years, we have never imagined or thought about preparing parents for deliberately sending sick or symptomatic children to school.”
In Washington State and Ozark County above Milwaukee, there are a series of fall reopening plans. Johnson said that although many schools offer students the option of going to school five days a week, all of them “actively”
The Dashboard of the Washington-Ozark Department of Public Health shows that at least one student or staff member of more than a dozen schools in the county is being investigated for Covid-19. Of the 15 school districts, 11 are currently under investigation.
Johnson said there was at least one positive or suspicious case in all school districts.
Wisconsin has recorded 1,268 deaths, but it is not the first state where parents have faced difficulties due to their refusal to comply with public health agreements. Due to the outbreak, Connecticut has sent some school districts home. A high school student in Massachusetts tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, which forced all students, faculty and staff in the positive individual class to be quarantined for the next 14 days.
Health officials advise parents not to let their children go to school when they are sick or show symptoms, and recommend that schools continue to use attendance tracking software to count students who have tested positive for the virus.
Johnson said that if cases are on the rise, counties will hire more contact trackers and consider suggesting schools close their doors.
Johnson said: “We cannot control the human behavior of sending sick and active children to school. We have never considered people who completely ignore basic health instructions.” “We have no tools anymore, we just want everyone to be safe. “
She said: “A few irresponsible parents may be responsible for shutting down the entire school district.”
