Wisconsin Health System: Aurora Medical Center staff intentionally damaged the vaccine

Wisconsin health system officials said Wednesday that 500 doses of the coronavirus vaccine that must be discarded without refrigeration now appear to have been deliberately vandalized by an employee.

Aurora Medical Center first reported the deteriorating dose on Saturday and said they were accidentally overnight by an employee at the Grafton plant.

In a statement issued late Wednesday, Aurora said that the employees involved “today admitted that they intended to remove the vaccine from cold storage.”

Aurora’s statement stated that they had fired the employee and referred the matter to the authorities for further investigation. Their statement did not mention possible motives for the action, and health system officials did not immediately respond to information seeking more information.

The statement said: “We still believe that vaccination is our way out of the pandemic. We are disappointed that this person̵

7;s actions will cause more than 500 people to delay vaccination.”

Aurora declined to provide more information, but said it will provide more details on Thursday.
