Why Tuesday’s Chuck Schumer, the Senate’s top Democrat, was very nervous

This is why the New York State Senator must look at the results of the Democratic primary election held in imperialism on Tuesday (still pending) when he looks forward to running for re-election in 2022.

This is why.

1) Rep. Eliot Engel is seriously behind the first Liberal candidate of the 16th district, Jamaal Bowman.

3) Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated the former cable anchor Michelle Caruso-Cabrera for a well-funded challenge.
4) In the fifteenth and seventeenth districts of New York, both have very democratic seats, and the current members have not been re-elected. The most liberal candidates have the upper hand. Both are gay blacks, and if they are elected as expected in November, they will make history in this regard.
(Side note: Thousands of absentee votes were cast due to the coronavirus. It will be counted on June 30, which may affect the results.)
The results of writing The New York Times:

“Early returns seem to confirm that the liberal wave of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez̵

7;s election to Congress in 2018 continues to develop.

“Ms. Ocasio-Cortez herself faced the main challenge, but easily left it aside, despite like-minded candidates (hugging her call for a “Green New Deal” and “Medicare for All” and other policies) show Show the power of elections.”

That’s right. But as The Times’ Jonathan Martin pointed out on Twitter, What happened on Tuesday goes far beyond Tuesday.

He wrote on Twitter: “The success of @AOC, @AyannaPressley, @JamaalBowmanNY, the strength of @Booker4KY and the failure of @BernieSanders provided the left with 21, 22 and 24 scripts,” he wrote on Twitter. [People of color] People who can build multi-ethnic alliances provide the best chance to overthrow the Dem agency. Martin added:

” [question] Not now, but who tried to leave the seat in the 22nd Senate D core meeting [with] The same situation AOC, Bowman (Bowman) especially [Massachusetts Rep. Ayana Pressley] Make. This is why the most interesting story of the 21s may be Schumer [Democrats] The Senate with a majority of seats. “

Yes!

In fact, the most obvious goal for such a primary election in the Democratic class of the Senate in 2022 is Schumer himself. Although Schumacher has done very little to make himself vulnerable-as of the end of March, he had nearly $10 million in income from the bank-Schumer because of his leadership in the Senate and has been a federally elected president since 1980 In fact, this is a symbol of the political system.

In a vacuum, for Schumer, this will not be the biggest political issue in the world. But we-he-are not living in a vacuum. And because we don’t do this, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez exists. This is the main potential problem facing Schumer.

Ocasio-Cortez has been dissatisfied with Joe Crowley. One candidate among Democratic leaders, Joe Crowley, was defeated in 2018. The discussion is the next speaker of the House of Representatives, and now it has become a political superstar. She, perhaps more than anyone else in the party (including Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren), has become synonymous with unapologetically liberalism.

She has raised more than $10 million in this election and spent more than $6 million. According to Hill’s analysis, there are nearly 40 candidates on her pay slip. As Hill’s Gabby Birenbaum wrote:

“Her spending suggests that Ocasio-Cortez is working hard to build a stronger fundraising business. She has already spent nearly $1.2 million on Facebook ads for a national audience, which may be intended to recruit more donors. She It has already cost $500,000 to rent email lists and advertise at Washington-based consulting companies.”

Moreover, AOC explicitly refused to rule out Schumer’s challenge after 2022. “I don’t know,” she said recently that it is possible to make an initial bid. “To be honest, this news cycle is so crazy, who knows where any of us will be in 2022.”

For those who lost their chance if she did oppose Schumer, the vote held in New York on Tuesday should resolve their doubts. Engel has been in office since 1988 and is currently chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Maloney is the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee. The reorganization of the system in Washington did not protect the two of them from the severe challenges of their ideological left. In fact, they may have provided impetus to the challengers, who believed that the incumbents had forgotten the people they were sent to represent.

Now, Schumer is not Engel or Maloney. He would not be surprised. He may not spend money. If there is no large-scale struggle, he will not fail.

But he is also the leader of the Democratic Party of the Senate. This may mean that the broker compromised, and from now until the summer of 2022, the left will not like it. At the same time, Ocasio-Cortez just keeps getting stronger and stronger as a political force.
