Roku first announced plans to support Apple’s smart home and digital auxiliary functions in late September, but users and investors had no launch date yet. As part of the Roku OS 9.4 update, HomeKit smart home controls and AirPlay 2 media services are now being rolled out to a handful of Roku devices. With this upgrade, users with iPhone, iPad or Mac can share music and pictures directly from their Apple devices to the Roku settings in the living room.

The addition of Apple HomeKit also adds support for the Siri digital assistant, making Roku the first media streaming device manufacturer to provide support for three leading assistant services in a single device. Roku hardware provides Amazon (Nasdaq stock code: AMZN) Alexa and letterof (Nasdaq stock code: GOOG) (Nasdaq Stock Code: GOOGL) Google Assistant for many years.
Roku’s extended feature set was announced in advance over a month ago, so today’s launch is not surprising. Today, investors basically applaud Roku to fulfill previous promises.
