Just like the protective case that comes with most other noise-canceling headphones, the Shield Case can be folded and folded around the AirPod Max to provide adequate protection. If for some reason, the headset can be stored separately or with Apple. Inside, you will find a plush lining to avoid scratches; this is the same extremely soft lining that Waterfield uses in laptop bags such as “leather messengers”. (I own that bag, and I can confirm that the plush liner is very soft.) There is also an internal mesh pouch that can hold a 20w power brick and charging cable.
There is also a smart AirPods Max dedicated function inside: the magnetic “butterfly” separates the two earmuffs and triggers the low-power mode of the headset. When AirPods Max finally entered low-power mode, Waterfield’s Shield Case copied the only useful function Apple built into its case.
On the outside, two zippers close the Shield Case, which means you can open it slightly and plug in the AirPod Max to charge it. There is also a handle on the top, which should make it easy to pull the box out of the backpack. There are two small pockets on the outside of the box: a mesh back pocket for quick access and a zipper front pocket for storing items you want to secure. The front is brown leather with waxed canvas decoration, or red, blue or black leather with black bulletproof nylon decoration.
I have been using Waterfield products for many years, so I admit that I may be biased-but I also have experience knowing that whether it is a universal laptop bag or a laptop, they usually make really smart decisions in the design. Suitable for this specific gadget shell. Its price is not cheap at $99, but the company handmade all its products in small batches, and the quality is consistent and outstanding. There are not many other third-party cases on the market, but if you want to be cheaper, the situation should change soon. But Waterfield’s Shield Case looks like a smartly designed headset product that definitely needs more protection than Apple provides.
