ST. Louis (KMOV.com)-A study conducted by the University of Washington showed that medications prescribed for depression and related conditions may prevent COVID-19 patients from experiencing severe symptoms.
According to this study, fluvoxamine is used for depression, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, which can prevent serious complications and reduce the possibility of hospitalization and oxygen inhalation for COVID-19 patients.
The study involved 152 COVID-19 patients who recovered at home, provided 80 patients with drugs and 72 patients with placebos over a two-week period.
Of the 72 patients who received the placebo, 6 were seriously ill; four were taken to the hospital. None of the 80 patients taking fluvoxamine was seriously ill.
