Vizio’s latest update helps its TV catch up with PS5 and Xbox Series X

For people playing PS5 on PS5, Xbox Series X or using Nvidia RTX 3080 (or any powerful Nvidia GPU that supports G-Sync), Vizio’s latest TV firmware update has complete features and improvements. Currently, it is rolling out to the company’s OLED devices and its 2021 P-series Quantum X and P-series Quantum models-all of which have HDMI 2.1 ports.

Breaking down by platform, Vizio claims that the update “provides PlayStation 5 with full bandwidth 4K support at 120fps.” PS5 itself does not support variable refresh rate.

This is not the case if your computer has powerful features (such as Nvidia RTX 3080). After connecting to the device, the firmware can provide 4K resolution at up to 1

20Hz refresh rate, and supports 4K/60Hz variable refresh rate and 4K/120Hz settings. The latter means that if your PC suddenly drops frames every second, you won’t notice the screen jumping or tearing; the display will automatically adjust its refresh rate to the current capacity of your computer.

This update also bodes well for Xbox Series X owners. It improves the variable refresh rate support for a small amount of game content that currently supports 120Hz refresh rate 4K resolution. However, this is good news for the future.

In addition to platform-specific notes, Vizio made some noteworthy adjustments to these TVs in the firmware update. It adds discrete IR codes to each HDMI port, making them easier to register in HDMI-CEC products. Vizio has also improved compatibility with AV receivers that support HDMI. The company also includes some other quality of life features, which you can check below.
