Portland, ore. -Verizon’s Skyward and UPS Flight Forward today announced a collaborative effort to deliver retail products, the drone has a drone connected to Verizon 4G LTE, and 5G testing and delivery integration. The goal of these companies is to provide retail products in rural Florida through networked drones.
“We will need to have the ability to manage and support multiple drones. These drones can fly at the same time, dispatch from a centralized location, and operate in a safe and secure environment. To do this on a large scale together with Verizon and Skyward One point, we need the powerful features of 5G.” UPS CEO Carol B. Tomé said.
Verizon Chief Strategy Officer Rima Qureshi said: “We are just beginning to see how the power of 5G ultra-broadband will change the way businesses operate.”
In 2020, Verizon, UPS Flight Forward and Skyward began testing 4G LTE in delivery drones to demonstrate cellular reliability and performance at high altitudes.
“The low latency of 5G and edge computing is ideal for monitoring air traffic in and out of busy logistics hubs, especially those that use a hybrid autonomous fleet of drones, trucks and aircraft,” Skyward President Mariah Scott said. “This year, we will connect the sky by testing 5G ultra-wideband integration to further expand our cooperation with UPS.”
Since the establishment of its aircraft delivery company UPS Flight Forward, UPS has successfully operated more than 3,800 unmanned aerial vehicles, and the aircraft delivery company was certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in 2019. But in 2020, the delivery of drones goes far beyond the fast delivery of basic healthcare items-during the global pandemic, it provides high-risk seniors with fast, contactless delivery options to keep them healthy at home.
“Using Verizon’s 5G and Skyward, we will be able to change the delivery experience-more personalized, on-demand delivery, and with the same security, efficiency and reliability that our customers today trust.” Bala, vice president of UPS Advanced Technology Division Ganesh said.
