The world’s first COVID-19 human challenge is about to begin.
According to The Sun, the UK will infect 2500 healthy volunteers with the coronavirus to study the behavior of this infection in the body, especially the amount needed before a person develops Covid-19.
The government has budgeted $45 million for this research, which was conducted by Imperial University, the Royal Free Hospital of the National Health Service, and hVIVO Pharmaceuticals, a pioneer of the Viral Human Challenge Model.
Because of the ethical issues raised about infecting healthy people, human challenge research is rarely used.
British people between the ages of 18 and 30 will receive an experimental nasal vaccine and then become infected. The project will start in January. Scientists expect the first results in May.

“When I’m in such a low risk, I can’t let this opportunity to do something, to really do something, and let me pass.”
According to the “Online Mail” report, Fraser-Urquhart and his volunteers will receive approximately US$5,300 in a three-week stay in the hospital’s specialized disease clinic.
Later, researchers will use the human challenge model to discover how vaccines prevent the coronavirus.
On Wednesday, British scientists announced that people with mild cases of COVID had immunity that lasted for at least four months.
