President Donald Trump proposed on Thursday that F.B.I. Under President Barack Obama, in 2016, an informant was integrated into the Trump campaign.
The President wrote this claim to Andrew McCarthy, an editor of the Conservative National Review. In a recent column, McCarthy said that Glenn Simpson, co-founder of the Fusion GPS intelligence service, which had been researching Trump during the campaign, testified before the Senate that the F.B.I. had a "human source" within the campaign. (According to McCarthy, Simpson later retired, saying that he had misunderstood what his source, former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, who had helped Fusion GPS with his research, had told him.)
"Wow, the word seems To come out that the Obama FBI MIRROR WITH AN INTEGRATED INFORMANT REFLECTS THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN & # 39 ;, Trump tweeted. "Andrew McCarthy says, & # 39; There's probably no doubt that she has at least one confidential informant in the campaign "If that's so, that's bigger than Watergate!" he concluded.
According to Simpson, Steele had met with the FBI in the fall of 201
"Essentially, he told me they had other information about this matter from an internal source of the Trump campaign," Simpson said in his r statement in the Senate. "My understanding was that they believed Chris at the time – that they believed Chris could be credible because they had other intelligence that indicated the same thing and one of these intelligence units was a Trump human source."
Trump has long been convinced that the Obama White House somehow stopped his efforts to become president in 2016. Shortly after his inauguration last year, he claimed that the government of his predecessor had intercepted the Trump Tower during the election campaign – an allegation refuted by the Ministry of Justice following an investigation.
