In the second half, Damian Lillard scored 21 of 31 points, and in Monday night the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Los Angeles Lakers 115-107, CJ McCollum scored 20 points and 11 assists.
“I hope we can continue to develop on this basis,” Portland coach Terry Stotts said. “We realized that we could be a good team. We just beat the defending champions. They are a great team.”
Gary Trent Jr. scored a career-high seven three-pointers, while the Blazers beat the Lakers in a second consecutive game at Staples Center to score 28 points.
Lillard said: “This makes us more confident to go on the road, continue to develop, continue to work hard.”
LeBron James scored 29 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. This is the number one NBA champion. They finished 2-2 in the first game of the season. Dennis Schröder added 24 points, but the Lakers scored 59 consecutive victories as they entered the lead in the fourth quarter.
After playing less than 6 minutes in Portland’s victory over Houston last Saturday, Trent came out of his career high score with a score of 10/14 and was impressive. In response, he completed his career-high 2 points.
Lillard said: “I think any young player after going through that kind of season last season wants to rotate more than six minutes.” “When that happened, I was like,’Let’s see his Reaction.’ I think this is enough to show that he played and has this kind of performance. It shows how tough he is mentally this season and how locked in him.”
Los Angeles maintained the lead with the strong performances of James and Schroder, the latter apparently enjoying the matchup with Lillard. But their teammates struggled a lot back to back the next night.
“We are a bit stuck in a quagmire,” said Lakers coach Frank Vogel. “I don’t know (why). We just have difficulty maintaining this intensity.”
The Lakers led 15-0 early in the second half and entered fourth place by one point, but Lillard and McCollum made a large deal afterwards. Portland completed a 12-6 surge.
Trailblazers: Carmelo Anthony and Nassir Little missed the game under the NBA’s health regulations. Zach Collins injured his left ankle.
Lakers: Alex Caruso missed the game under the NBA’s health protocol. …In Montrezl Harrell’s 9 points, Los Angeles scored only 23 points.
Anthony Davis missed a game with a bruised calf, temporarily scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. In the first half, he only scored 2 points in 17 minutes, and in the second half he scored 4 points.
Vogel said: “We just didn’t control the ball well.” “I have to make sure I can (Davis) seize the opportunity to make him enterprising.”
Trail Blazers: At the Clippers on Wednesday.
Lakers: At the Spurs on Wednesday.
