Investigator Akhilesh Pratap Singh told CNN that the body of the dolphin was found on the embankment of the Sharda Canal in Pratapgarh District on December 31.
Police said that on Thursday, the three people allegedly seen in the video were arrested. According to Singh, 9 people were also seen in the video, and they are still on the run.
The video shows a group of people hitting the dolphin to death with sticks and axes. Some people laughed when the dolphin’s nearly lifeless carcass was pulled by its fins in shallow water.
Varun Singh, a forest official who participated in the preliminary investigation, told CNN that the dolphin is an adult Ganges river dolphin.
