Thousands of people applied for funerals for later theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking the following month after opening a 1000-seat ballot at London Westminster Abbey next month.
"We are very pleased to receive such an answer," said the Stephen Hawking Foundation on Facebook on Thursday.
She posted a link to a BBC report that said 12,000 people from 50 nations had joined the vote, which remains open until Tuesday.
Hawking's Ashes will be buried on June 15 near the grave of Isaac Newton, giving him an honor that other national luminaries enjoy.
"It is perfectly fitting that the remains of Professor Stephen Hawking be buried in the abbey alongside those of distinguished peers Scientists, John Hall, Dean of Westminster, said earlier.
Hawking died on March 1
A crowd of celebrities and locals gathered at his funeral in March 31 at a church in Cambridge near Gonville and Caius College, where Hawking was a member for 52 years. 19659003] Newton was buried in the abbey in 1727, while Charles Darwin was buried next to him in 1882.
Hawking was one of the world's top experts in gravity and black holes, and in 1979 was named Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge. the same post that was once held by Newton.
