Chrome OS devices also run Android, or at least run a large enough portion of the Android platform to allow the application to run with Chrome’s browser tab. However, you may not think too much about which version of Android your Chromebook is using. After all, it is not immediately relevant to the functionality of most Chrome OS devices: this is handled by the larger Chrome OS, which is usually updated by Google along with the browser.

However, the Android version used to run all the Android applications on your Chrome OS device is important, only because it determines whether it can take advantage of certain features added in the Google mobile operating system. For some devices running from Chrome version 90, the Android version on Chrome OS will be updated to Android 1

1. This version is currently running in the Beta channel. Significant upgrades from the previous Android 9 base include dark mode and unified application scaling.

An Android Police reader led us to a page in Chromium’s Gerrit comment repository, which lists all the code names of devices running Chrome OS that Google intends to upgrade. We have cross-referenced these names to find retail laptops, tablets, and desktops (“Chromebox”) that upgrade to Android 11 along with Chrome 90. The following is a list by manufacturer:

Please note that some code names of motherboards and devices do not seem to be directly related to the released devices. These may be development tools, upcoming devices (such as “asurada”, “dedede” and “trogdor”), or simply designed but never manufactured products. New Chromebooks and other Chrome OS devices released in the future should all run Android 11.
