The new Nintendo Switch report is bad news for your wallet. For many reasons, games on Nintendo Switch are already more expensive than games on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. On the one hand, the sales of Nintendo’s eShop are not as rich or charitable as those on Steam or PlayStation Store. At the same time, the biggest and best games on many consoles rarely receive substantial discounts, especially if they are released by Nintendo. Finally, although it is not as common as it used to be, the Nintendo Switch tax still exists. The latter refers to higher revenue from games on the Switch compared to other platforms. In summary, it sounds like playing games on Switch and Switch Lite will become more expensive.
On SMG Studio̵
Now, contrary to this report, there are two games- Plague Road with HoPiko--The current price is US$0.99, which is currently the cheapest game on the platform. There are many other games on sale, but none of them violate the aforementioned $1.99 price point.
On the surface, this seems to eliminate the requirement of SMG Studio, but as the developer pointed out, their game was only $0.99 recently, but this is because they plan to sell it in August. In other words, these two games may be in the same boat. They are the only two games that cost less than $0.99, which shows that this is indeed the case. There are still many other games with a list price of $0.99, but this is their normal price, and again, they are likely to be grandfathers.
All of this explains, now, put everything here. There is nothing official here, and so far, Nintendo has not provided any comment or clarification. If the situation changes, we will definitely update the story. As for why Nintendo would do this, who knows. This may be related to the eShop’s best-selling page, where game prices have fallen to cheap prices everywhere, but for now, this is just a guess.
