The new device brings music to your brain-without headphones

London (AP)-imagine a world where you can walk around in your own personal bubble. You can listen to your favorite music, play loud computer games, watch movies or get navigation directions in the car without disturbing the people around you.

This is the possibility brought by a new future audio technology “sound launch” from the Israeli company Noveto Systems. On Friday, it will make its debut on a desktop device that can transmit sound directly to listeners without sound.

The company provided the Associated Press with an exclusive demo of the SoundBeamer 1

.0 desktop prototype before its release on Friday.

The sense of hearing is completely a science fiction movie. The 3-D sound is so close, it feels like inside your ears, but in front of, above and behind your ears.

Noveto expects the device to have many practical uses, from allowing office workers to listen to music or conference calls without disturbing colleagues, to allowing someone to play games, movies or music without disturbing other important people.

The lack of headphones means that other sounds in the room can be heard clearly.

This technology uses a 3-D sensing module to locate and track the position of the ears, and send audio through ultrasound, thereby forming a sound pocket on the user’s ear. The company stated that the sound can be heard in stereo or spatial 3-D mode, resulting in a 360-degree sound around the listener.

The demonstration included natural video clips of swans in the lake, buzzing bees and streams, and the audience felt completely brought into the scene.

But even CEO Christophe Ramstein has difficulty putting this concept into practice. He said: “The brain does not understand what it does not know.”

In a Noveto demo conducted by Zoom from Tel Aviv, SoundBeamer product manager Ayana Wallwater could not hear gunshots in the game demo.

This is the point. But she can really enjoy the reaction of people trying the software for the first time.

She said: “Most people just say,’Wow, I really don’t believe it.’

“You don’t believe it because it sounds like a speaker, but no one can hear it… It’s supporting you, and you are in everything. It’s happening by your side.”

By changing the settings, the sound can follow the listener as the listener moves his head. It is also possible to move out of the path of the beam and not hear any sound at all, resulting in a surreal experience.

“You don’t need to tell the device where you are. It doesn’t flow to an exact place,” Wallwater said.

“Wherever you go, it will follow you. So this is perfectly for you-follow you and play what you want in your mind.”

She added: “This is our dream.” “In this world, we can get the voice you want. You don’t need to disturb others, and others will not be disturbed by your voice. But you can still interact with them. .”

After listening to music for the first time, Ramstein asked himself how it was different from other audio devices.

“I was thinking,’Yes, but is it the same with headphones?’ No, because I have freedom, as if I have the freedom to do what I want to do. These voices came to my mind because There is something going on here, which is difficult to explain because we have no reference to it.”

Although the sound beam concept is nothing new, Novelo is the first company to introduce the technology, and its SoundBeamer 1.0 desktop device will become the first branded consumer product.

Ramstein said that a “smaller, sexier” version of the prototype will be released for consumers before Christmas 2021.

“You know, I’m trying to think about how we compare the sound beam to any other invention in history. And I think the only thing that comes to mind is… When I tried the iPod for the first time, I was like: “Oh my goodness. what is that? ‘I think sound emission is so destructive. There is something to say, it didn’t exist before. There is freedom to use it. Really good. “
