Dixon said: “Based on the initial information, we have concluded that the inspection interval for hollow fan blades unique to this engine model should be increased. This hollow fan blade is only used on Boeing 777 aircraft.”
After the FAA announced the news, United Airlines stated in a statement that “out of cautious consideration,” the United States “immediately” demolished 24 Boeing 777 aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney 4000 series engines.
The 24 aircraft are part of the United Airlines 52 777 fleet. The other 28 are still in storage. Manchester United stated that the move is voluntary and temporary and will only disrupt “a few customers”
