After one of his father’s most famous figures was stolen during the U.S. Capitol Uprising in Washington, DC on January 6, the son of the legendary Marvel Comics screamed. The news photos recorded that several thugs were seen bearing the Captain America logo, including his iconic American flag-inspired shield, given to him by his creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. (Simon and Kirby died in 2011 and 1994, respectively.)
In a statement to CNN anchor Jake Tapper-the bizarre actor Chris Evans plays Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and retweeted the news-Kirby’s son Neil (Neal) strongly condemned the mob’s use of Captain America-style images, and noticed that the character’s origins during World War II were super soldiers who opposed fascism. “He was created by two New York Jews who hated Nazis and bullies,” Kirby’s statement read. “Captain America represents the weak…always represents justice and never backs down.”
Kirby went on to say that he was “shocked and ashamed” when he saw the Captain America logo on the T-shirt and national flag during the Capitol Uprising. These images are disgusting and shameful. Captain America is the absolute antithesis of Donald Trump…If Donald Trump has the qualities and character of Captain America, the White House will be a shining symbol of truth and integrity, rather than a trash can of tiresome lies and hypocrisy. “
