The black hole should release a radio bomb in a few years’ time



Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) found the first ever evidence that a star emits radio flares long after being destroyed by a black hole.

The radio flares from stars destroyed by black holes are nothing new in themselves, and scientists didn’t know anything about it before. But this only happened immediately, and long after star destruction was not heard, the emission of radio flares began.

However, a team of researchers led by Dr. Assaf Horesh of the HUJI Racah Institute of Physics and Professor Brad Cenko, Director of the NASA Swift Space Telescope, and Dr. Iair Arcavi of Tel Aviv University have managed to find the definitive discovery. The flare even a few years later.

Horesh explained in a statement: “According to existing theories about how these events occur, if no radio transmission is found immediately after the interruption occurs, it is not expected to happen again in the future.

“However, we decided to make the last radio observation six months after the star’s destruction. Surprisingly, we found bright radio radiation. It is not yet clear what causes these delayed radio flares, because they violate existing theories about black holes and how these radio flares work. The result of this discovery is that completely new models will need to be developed to better understand this phenomenon. However, scientists are fully aware that this may not be uncommon, and may in fact be common, and has never been discovered before.

One possible theory put forward by the research team is that long after the star was destroyed, a large amount of debris was eventually pulled into the hole. However, the mechanism is unclear.

Hores said: “The cause of the delay and the exact physical process that caused this late discharge are still unresolved issues,”

“In light of this discovery, we are actively looking for more such delayed radio flares in other tidal destruction events.”

The results of this research are published in academic journals Natural astronomy.
This research was conducted after scientists at the Israel Institute of Technology conducted a black hole study, which measured the temperature of Hawking radiation emitted by the black hole by studying man-made acoustic black holes.

This finding is consistent with predictions about its strength and temperature, which depend on the black hole itself, but then there was a sudden and rapid increase in the life of the black hole. Researchers speculate that this is due to the formation of an internal horizon in the black hole, and sound waves are no longer captured.

This was never part of the famous physicist Stephen Hawking’s original theory of black holes, which in itself made him synonymous with Hawking’s radiation, which made it unprecedented, which shows that there is still a lot to know about these mysterious celestial bodies.

Like Horesh, Technion scientist Dr. Jeff Steinhauer is determined to go beyond the original analysis and theory to better understand the working principles of black holes.
