The iPhone 12 (and its high-end iPhone 12 Pro equivalent) received one of our highest ratings ever. It has a powerful and fast A14 bionic processor, dual rear cameras, 5G and a magnetic “MagSafe” function, allowing it to be connected to other mobile accessories. Read our Apple iPhone 12 review.

As Samsung’s flagship phone in 2020, the Galaxy S20 has an excellent 6.2-inch AMOLED display, an ultra-smooth refresh rate of 120Hz, reverse wireless charging, a waterproof design and three rear cameras (in addition to its pretty good front camera). For Android users, this is an excellent daily driver, if you have more money, you can also choose Galaxy S20 Plus and Ultra. Read our Samsung Galaxy S20 5G review.

If you want an expensive 5G phone, then Pixel 4A 5G is our first choice. This $499 (£499, AU$799) phone is available for preorder and will be shipped on November 19. It has a stable battery life, excellent dual rear cameras and powerful software support from Google. There is also the Pixel 5, which has an excellent 90Hz display, but is priced at US$699 (£599, AU$999), which is more expensive. Read our Google Pixel 4A 5G review.

OnePlus released a lot of mobile phones in 2020, including 8 Pro and 8T, but this year our favorite is OnePlus 8, mainly because of its price. When it was released, it was priced at US$699 (£599, equivalent to AU$1,180) and has been discounted ever since. This phone has a 6.55-inch AMOLED screen, a 90Hz display, a waterproof design and 5G. Motorola Edge Plus has all the features you would expect in a premium 5G phone: Snapdragon 865 chipset, large battery, OLED screen with high refresh rate, and multiple rear cameras with heavy-duty specifications. Motorola took the features of other top Android phones, rotated its own Moto onto them, and built them all into one of our favorite Android phones of the year. Read our Motorola Edge Plus review.

Starting at just $399, the 2020 version of the iPhone SE is the best budget phone you can find right now. Equipped with an A13 processor (same as the iPhone 11) and an excellent camera, the iPhone SE’s functions are much more powerful than it should be. Old-school iPhone fans will also appreciate the return of TouchID and the home button. Pixel phone has a loyal following, and for good reason. Regardless of price, Google’s Pixel 4A has a first-class camera that can take beautiful photos. However, the price of this phone is 349 US dollars (349 pounds, 599 Australian dollars) better. Compared with last year’s Pixel 4, this 5.81-inch phone also has a headphone jack, 128GB of out-of-the-box storage space and longer battery life. Please read our Google Pixel 4A review.
