Unfortunately, the unlimited storage space in Google Photos will expire in June 2021, and all uploaded photos will count towards your 15GB of free Google Drive storage space. This means, at best, only a few years of free storage space before you can start paying for more space.
For those who want to ship early, the good news is that there are already several Google Photos alternatives on the market. The bad news is that none of them provide the same feature set, and some require more effort to set up. This is your best choice!
The best alternative to Google Photos
Should you stop using Google Photos?

Before we introduce alternatives to Google Photos, it’s worth asking a question: Is it better for you to buy more storage space for Google Photos?
The answer may be yes. Free unlimited storage is only part of what makes Google Photos the best option. The ability to quickly search the photo library by date, location or keywords is very useful, and no other service can match it.

Another thing to consider is that none of these alternatives will always be free. Compared with Google Drive, most software has even less available capacity, and some software also requires a hardware or software subscription fee. In most cases, once the limit is reached, you’d better bite the bullet and pay $2 a month (or $20 a year) to get 100GB.
It is also worth noting that Pixel owners reserve free unlimited Google Photos storage space. They are also excellent phones, with options for every budget. You can learn more about the lineup here.
With this approach, for those who wish to permanently terminate the service, here is the best alternative to Google Photos.

For those who are used to truly unlimited storage, Amazon Photos is a good alternative. Even better, if you want to pay for Amazon Prime, you already have it.
Amazon Photos is essentially unlimited cloud storage, but only for photos. You can store 5GB of videos and other files, but you have to pay more for it. However, it does have some keyword search functions. They are not as good as Google’s, but they are worse than nothing. You can also save photos in original quality.
Like Google Photos, the app will automatically sync your photos, and you can share them with your family. One subscription can share unlimited photo storage space with up to six family members. However, if you cancel your Amazon Prime subscription, you will not be able to access your photos and may even be permanently deleted.

Dropbox is a very popular cloud storage service, and if configured correctly, it can be used as a good alternative to Google Photos. You can automatically sync all photos in your phone to a safe location in the cloud. It also has the best third-party integration of all cloud providers.

However, the free version is limited. You only get 2GB of storage space (compared to 15GB for Google Photos and some other storage spaces), and the paid plan is much more expensive than its competitors. The reward you get is additional security and productivity features, and if you just want to store photos of your kids, then this may not be worth it.
Flickr has been around for a long time, but not everyone knows that it offers an excellent photo storage plan. It is mainly sold to professional and amateur photographers as a way to host and share high-quality photos, but it is also very useful for everyday users.
The app can automatically sync all photos, if you just want to save the best photos, you can upload them separately. You can set photos and videos to be private so as not to take your eyes away. Since it is designed for photos taken from scratch, it is also easy to organize all the contents in the album easily.
The free plan used to provide 1TB of storage space, but is now limited to 1,000 photos. If you want unlimited storage space, you must purchase Flickr Pro, which runs for $7 per month (or $60 per year).
If you have an iPhone, you are probably already using iCloud. If it does not exceed it in some cases, it has the same powerful cloud storage tools as Google Drive. iCloud Photos is the part we will focus on, just like Google Photos, this is an easy way to store all your photos safely in the cloud. It does not have the same search function, but you can actually access the photos from any device.
Free users are limited to 5GB of storage space, but Apple iCloud offers some of the cheapest expansion plans. 50GB is only $1 per month, 200GB is only $3 per month, and 2TB is only $10 per month. You can also save on other subscriptions by bundling other subscriptions with Apple One.
However, if you are not an iPhone user, you need to look elsewhere. There is currently no official support for Android phones, and it looks like it will not be available soon. You can access some limited functions through a mobile browser, but it offers almost nothing in terms of convenience.
Next is Microsoft’s cloud storage solutions. Because OneDrive is integrated with Office applications, it is a popular choice for business users, but it is also a powerful alternative to Google Photos. You can download the app to your phone and automatically sync your photos to the cloud. The gallery allows searching and automatically tag images based on their content (just like Google Photos).
The free version is limited to 5GB, but you can increase it to 100GB for only $2 per month. As part of the $7 per month (or $70 per year) plan, Microsoft 365 users can also get 1TB of storage space. This is a natural choice for anyone who uses Microsoft applications for work or personal purposes.
Your own server
So far, the last Google Photos alternative is the most complex but the most versatile. Setting up your own cloud server will give you complete control over your files and save you from permanently subscribing to any service.
However, this will take more time and effort than any other service on the market. You can use Plex, Synology, OwnCloud or many other services to do this, but this will require some technical knowledge.
