Dr. Anthony Fauci predicted on Thursday that the days of the coronavirus pandemic are over-thanks to a new vaccine that has proven effective against the disease so far.
Fauci said at a virtual health conference held by the London think tank Chatham House: “Of course, it won’t be popular for a long time, because I believe that vaccines will reverse this situation.”
However, America’s largest infectious disease expert warned that the new coronavirus is likely to remain.
He said: “I doubt if we will eradicate this problem.” “I think we need to plan. This is something we may need to control for a long time. We may have to be careful. This may have become an endemic disease.”
Biopharmaceutical companies around the world have been racing to develop safe and effective vaccines against COVID-19. Earlier this week, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that their drug candidates are more than 90% effective in later studies.
Moderna also said on Wednesday that it has enough data to evaluate its shooting effectiveness. The company did not disclose when the results will be released, but Fauci said that day it might be released soon.
