Targus announces the launch of antibacterial keyboard lights and backpacks

Targus is a long-established accessory manufacturer. Its CES product list this year focuses on three themes: portability, sustainability, and staying healthy during the pandemic (via Engadget).

The UV-C LED disinfection lamp uses ultraviolet rays to kill microorganisms on any objects in its cleaning area.

The company’s tagline products for pandemic health are 2Office antibacterial backpacks and UV-C LED disinfection lamps. The lamp is designed to sit above the keyboard and mouse and bathe in a UV-C lamp to help eliminate microorganisms that may be scattered on high-touch accessories. It turns on automatically for five minutes every hour, but you don’t have to worry about it interrupting your work: it uses a motion sensor to detect whether you are using a computer, and it will wait to start its cleaning cycle until you are far away.

If you are not interested in using ultraviolet light to clean your keyboard and mouse (though in fact, it can be used for any purpose), Targus also announced that it is developing an antibacterial mouse and keyboard.

Backpacks and tablet cases are expected to kill microorganisms on “critical touch points.”

The 2Office backpack can hold laptops up to 17.3 inches and has an antibacterial coating on the “key contact points”. If you have to travel during a pandemic, this bag may be useful, but when the trip starts again, I can think of other uses for the antibacterial bag. (Who else would find it weird to hang their backpack on the bathroom door?) If you don’t want a brand new backpack, the company will also release an antibacterial tablet case and an antibacterial privacy screen for some computer monitors .

The company also announced a base and sturdy protective cover for Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 3. The dock uses Samsung’s DeX software, which allows you to connect the tablet to the monitor for a more desktop-like experience. For iPad owners, Targus also announced an EcoSmart protective case made from recycled materials.

Finally, Targus announced a new antibacterial privacy screen with a price between US$35 and US$185, depending on the device used. The screen is now available, and the rest of the announced devices will be available this spring. Currently, no price or exact date is provided.
