Stone tools with a history of 2 million years found in East Africa

Tanzania Stone ToolsJena, Germany—Court Press Service According to the report, an international team of researchers discovered stone tools dating from 2 to 1.8 million years in the western region of Ewass Oldupa in Tanzania. The western region of Odupa Canyon is famous for its human fossils. 28 miles long. These artifacts are recovered from layered sediment layers and are the oldest stone tools found in the canyon so far. These tools include pebbles and pebble cores, sharp flakes and polyhedral pebbles. Fossils of bison, pigs, hippos, panthers, lions, hyenas, primates, reptiles, and birds were also found in these layers, as well as evidence of habitat changes over a 200,000 year period. These habitats include rivers and lakes, fern meadows, woodlands, palm groves, dry grasslands and evidence of natural burning. In these layers, the recurrence of the Oldowan tool indicates that ginseng entered and left the area during volcanic activity and as the environment changed. Michael Petraglia, a team member of the Max Planck Institute for Human History Sciences, said: “Although the ecosystem is changing, we still have a lot of flexibility and versatility.”
