Steamboat Resort postponed its opening day

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS-On Friday morning, Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. announced that it will postpone the open day originally scheduled for November 21.

According to the announcement, due to limited snow production and low snow accumulation in the early season, the resort now plans to open on December 1st of 2020-21.

“This winter is approaching and we need to balance a lot of things. Generally speaking, the Christie Peak Express and a few trails are open enough, but the opening of 2020 means that we must take into account the limited terrain and the need for employees, guests And the community’s responsible course of action,” said Rob Perlman, Steamboat President and COO. Ski&Resort Corp. “There are only two natural blizzards before this season, and there are few opportunities for snowmaking. We believe that opening the resort is not the best decision when there is not enough space for skiers and riders to spread between the lifts and trails. .”

Choose a new opening date based on estimated snowmaking opportunities. As the staff will actively work on the trails before the resort opens, it is currently not allowed to go uphill on the mountain.

“It’s important for the community to stay away from the mountains. When people play on the snow we make, whether it’s skinning, sledding or hiking, it will seriously affect the conditions and limit our team’s progress in building a resort base. This may continue to be delayed. The openness of the resort.” Perlman said.
