Elon MuskStarting in 2021, SpaceX launched a new communications satellite to the Turkish state on Thursday night.
Turksat 5A is the first of SpaceX’s next-generation next-generation broadcast birds to be elevated to orbit. The Falcon 9 lifted it to orbit from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 6:15 pm Pacific Standard Time (9:15 pm Eastern Time).
Turksat said that the new satellite will be able to provide expanded communications capabilities to Turkey and parts of Asia, Europe and Africa.
The Falcon 9 booster used for this mission successfully completed the fourth lift-off and flight, and successfully completed all missions with the fourth landing. This time it was the UAV “Just Read Command”
The company also hopes to restore half of the fairing or nose cone used in the mission with the help of ships stationed in the area.
For SpaceX, this is a relatively routine task, but within a year the right tone has been set, and the company hopes it will bring more similar successful launches. The next mission is expected to be “Transporter 1,” a ride-sharing launch that will put dozens of smaller satellites into orbit next week.
