Southwest Airlines adds 10 new route networks-complete list

  • As the aviation industry enters its first full year of recovery, Southwest Airlines will add 10 new routes to its network in 2021.
  • The new routes are concentrated in the Southwest region around the two newest airports in Colorado and Illinois.
  • There will also be a new shortest route to the southwest, just 73 miles from the city in Colorado.

The airline announced that it will conduct a cleaning in 2020, and has already looked for new routes and destinations in 2021. This will be the first full year of the long recovery of the aviation industry.

Southwest Airlines (Southwest Airlines) is adding 1

0 new routes to American leisure destinations, focusing on new airports in Colorado and Illinois.

The expansion will add a new destination, namely Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a new airport in the existing city of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. The route to Colorado Springs will provide another gateway for travelers to the mountains, where travelers can socially distancing themselves from nature, and all routes begin one week before the start of spring.

However, providing services to O’Hare International is a major departure from Southwest Airlines’ original low-cost business model. Southwest Airlines already has a major base in Chicago, but it is located at the smaller Midway International Airport, 15 miles southeast of the bustling international airport that United Airlines and American Airlines call home.

Although Southwest Airlines has historically avoided major international airports mainly due to the associated costs of using large international airports, the pandemic has forced the low-cost airline to replace it.

Due to the continued decline in passenger traffic, Southwest Airlines lost US$1.2 billion in the third quarter. Chief Executive Gary Kelly (Gary Kelly) also announced that the airline will stop limiting capacity and restrict seats on December 1. This policy caused a loss of $20 million in revenue during the quarter.
