Police said California authorities are looking for six prisoners who escaped from the county jail on Sunday, using homemade ropes to shrink their walls.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the 19-22-year-old prisoner was reported missing for the first time before midnight. The prosecutor’s office said investigators said the men entered the roof of the facility, where they used “homemade ropes to narrow the sides of the prison”.
The six missing prisoners are: 20-year-old Jorge Barron; Gabriel Francis Coronado (Gabriel Francis Coronado), 19-year-old; Manuel Allen Leon (Manuel Allen Leon) ), 21
A task force was formed to track the fugitives. No other details are immediately available.
Merced is a city with a population of about 85,000, located about 115 miles east of San Jose.
