Siegfried Fischbacher, half of Siegfried and Roy, who was full of fantasy big cat magicians, died at his home in Las Vegas on Wednesday. He was 81 years old.
The representative of Fischbacher announced in a statement in the Post that he had a terminal illness of pancreatic cancer and had recently undergone surgery to remove the tumor.
He was released from the hospital earlier this month and was taken care of by two hospice workers at home.
Due to complications of COVID-19, the legendary magician passed away less than a year, and his long-time partner Roy Horn passed away.
In 1957, the German-American duo met on the Bremen TS cruise ship, where they were tied to Chico, the pet cheetah poached by Horn.
Fischbacher served as a butler and entertainer, and invited the captain̵
Their final act-a fusion of taming tigers and David Copperfield’s style of magic and the gorgeous Liberace glitz-was launched in Sin City circa 1967. But this is their 14 years at the Mirage Theater, at a cost of 30 million US dollars, starting in 1989, in the heyday of the era of excess, which prompted them to become global stars.
Siegfried once said: “We do it out of love, not for success or money.” “We respect each other. We literally propose to each other: I created Roy, and Roy created Siegfried.”
In 2003, Horn suffered a late-career injury, and a 400-pound Siberian tiger (Mantacore) got stuck in his neck during a live performance at the Mirage Hotel Casino (the same was true for his 59th birthday).
In a 2019 interview with the ABC’s “Good Morning America” show, the performers stated that they had nothing to do with the infamous assault, which killed their careers.
“I really don’t miss it,” Fischbacher said at the time. “We played in Las Vegas alone for 40 years, did you know? Anyway, we have the most successful show in Las Vegas history.”
Fischbacher was born in Rosenheim, Germany on June 13, 1939, because he bought a magic book since he was a child to inspire people’s unremitting pursuit of magic art. Even if his performance is over, Siegfried can be found in Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden in the Phantom every day, surprises fans through simple coin tricks, and always takes time to take pictures .
His lifelong mantra: “Magic, everything is possible.”
