According to official media and reports, a crazy man fatally stabbed at least seven people in a random knife attack in China, the most obvious of whom was an elderly woman.
According to China Central Television (CCTV), the suspect was looted only under the surname Yang.
CCTV said the man started attacking people, including some who appeared to have just emerged from a nearby bathhouse. The victims also included 7 injured people, such as the police who tried to stop him.
A woman named Liu told the South China Morning Post that most of the victims without official identification appear to be middle-aged women.
The attacker “seems to be in his fifties,”
“[The suspect] Just stabbed a stranger with a knife. This is terrible,” she said.
“Fortunately, school is closed today. Otherwise, there may be more victims.”
Chinese law restricts the sale and possession of guns, but large-scale attacks with knives have become a shocking problem.
In June, a school security guard at a kindergarten in southern Guangxi wielded a knife, wounding at least 39 people. The culprit was sentenced to death.
In 2018, a man died and 12 others were injured in a knife attack in a shopping mall in Beijing.
