Send real-time U.S. election results to your mobile phone with our latest alert | Media

On election night in the United States, The Guardian provides readers with a unique way to send the latest election results in real time to their mobile phones.

What is it?

When the results start to appear on Tuesday night, we will send a mobile alert that will be automatically updated at night with the latest national vote count data. No need to click, search or open the app, you can track your voting records and view the main dynamics in real time on the lock screen of your phone. (This is the screen when you are not actively using your phone.)

This alert will be one of the fastest ways to receive election results on Tuesday and beyond. Since we don’t know if the time to count the votes this year is hours, days or weeks, the election alert will keep counting until the election is officially held, although you can minimize it at any time.

How do I register?

Anyone who has downloaded the “Guardian”

; mobile app can use the alert for free on iOS and Android devices.

What if you are In the U.S: If you already have the app and have registered for breaking news notifications in the US, you don’t need to do anything-you will automatically receive real-time election alerts. You can also expand the alert to see a data visualization, which shows election votes and the option to click into the “Guardian” live blog or full results page.

What if I decide to no longer receive alerts?

no problem. After expanding the notification (pull down on Android to expand the notification, and swipe on the side to tap “View” or press hard on iOS to expand the notification), the notification will be accompanied by a button, including the “Exit” option (in iOS) Or stop notifications (on Android). Tap this button and you will unsubscribe.

Who created the alert?

The project was developed by the Guardian Mobile Innovation Lab in 2016, which was funded by the John S and James L. Knight Foundation to explore news delivery on small screens. The 2020 version is developed by the Guardian Apps team, which is part of our product and engineering department. Since 1848, the Associated Press has played a key role in evaluating the results of the US election.
