LOS ANGELES-Selena Gomez will play the Peruvian mountaineer and social enterprise in a new movie based on Vasquez-Lavado’s upcoming memoir “Shadow of the Mountain” The role of Silvia Vasquez-Lavado (Silvia Vasquez-Lavado).
Vasquez-Lavado (Vasquez-Lavado) is the first lesbian to complete seven summits, which is the highest mountain in the seven continents (including Mount Everest). She is also the founder of Courageous Girls, a non-profit organization that helps survivors of sexual abuse and human trafficking, and organizes trips to Everest base camp for survivors of abuse. “Shadow of the Mountain”
Gomez will produce “In the Shadow of the Mountain” through her July Moon Productions. Other producers are Scott Budnick through his “One Community” banner, and Oscar winner Donna Gigliotti is released through her Tempesta film company. Vasquez-Lavado and Lara Love Hardin of Idea Architects are executive producers.
“Little Bird” screenwriter and director Elgin James (Elgin James) will write and direct “In the Shadow of the Mountain”. He wrote the film “The Rider” and co-created the series “Maya MC”
Gomez has appeared in feature films in Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers” and Jim Jarmusch’s “The Dead Don’t Die”.
Gigliotti won an Oscar for Best Picture for the production of “Shakespeare in Love” and was nominated for “Reader”, “Silver Lining Screenplay” and “Hidden Character” in this category. She also produced the 2019 Academy Awards.
WME, Lighthouse Management & Media and law firm Ziffren Brittenham rejected Gomez. Vasquez-Lavado is represented by WME and Idea Architects. James is represented by WME, Jamie Patricof of Hunting Lane and lawyer Tara Cole.
