Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Associated Press)-The state-run news agency reported that a Saudi Arabian man was speeding and knocked down the outer door of the Mosque of Mecca.
The Saudi News Agency said that the crash occurred around 10:30 in the evening when the man’s car ran into an obstacle and drove until it hit the gate on the south side of the Grand Mosque.
The agency stated that the authorities arrested the man, who was in an “abnormal” state, and without detailed explanation, according to the police, they handed the man to the prosecutor for possible charges.
The video on social media corresponds to the account of the news agency, after which the security forces pushed the damaged car away.
The Grand Mosque has a cube-shaped Kaaba that Muslims can observe five times a day. The authorities closed the mosque during the coronavirus pandemic, but recently opened the mosque to a small group of faithful believers. A video broadcast on the state-run Quran TV satellite channel showed people circling Kaaba before and after the crash.
Fearing that it might easily become a global super spreader of the virus, the country held a reduced-scale symbolic pilgrimage in July.
