A long wait, but today Roku began to provide support for Apple’s AirPlay 2 and HomeKit functions. Both will apply to most of the company’s 4K players, “including Roku Ultra, Roku Streambar, Roku Smart Soundbar, Roku Streaming Stick Plus, and Roku Premiere.” Roku TVs that support 4K will also be updated through RokuOS 9.4. “In the coming years Upgrade in phases within the week” to support AirPlay 2 and HomeKit.
AirPlay 2 allows you to send content from iPhone, iPad, or Mac to play on Roku devices. HomeKit allows you to control Roku through Apple’s Home app or Siri voice commands. By adding Apple AirPlay and HomeKit support, our streaming player is now the first to provide a player compatible with all three major voice systems (including Google Assistant, Alexa and now Siri).
