Although Razer Kishi for Android has been released for some time, today Razer announced the launch of Kishi for iPhone. For Razer, this is the first model with full MFi certification and can be used with most current iPhones. With triggers, bumpers, clickable fingertips and dedicated menu buttons, and a direct Lightning connection, it brings a console experience to iOS users. Go below to see the actual effect.
The core of the iPhone’s Razer Kishi is an expandable mobile game controller. Unlike some other mobile controllers from Razer, Kishi has a direct connection instead of Bluetooth for low-latency input, which feels really great.
The layout of Kishi is similar to the Xbox controller, from bottom to top on the left side, there is a home button, a d-pad (d-pad in the middle) and a clickable fingertip on the upper part of the handle. On the right side of the controller, Kishi has a menu button, clickable fingertips and four Face buttons similar to Xbox. At the top, there are bumpers and triggers on both sides.
Getting Kishi for iPhone settings is very simple. First, pull the tab on the back to eject the fixing plate. With the board disconnected, pop the phone to the right side where the lightning plug is located, and then install the left side on the top of the phone. Razer claims that most modern iPhone models are suitable. Although my iPhone 8 is not on the list of phones in the press conference, it is a perfect fit for Kishi, with titles such as Oceanhorn 2, Sneaky Sasquatch, and Asphalt 9: Legends, and everything is working fine.

The Kishi for iPhone comes with two rubber sleeves of different sizes for different size phones. Grips A is suitable for iPhone XS and 11 Pro, while Grips B is suitable for iPhone XR, XS Max, 11 and 11 Pro Max.
Although Razer Kishi does occupy the Lightning port on the iPhone, it has a Lightning channel so it can charge the phone while using the controller. Since the game will quickly drain the battery, this is very necessary for long-term games.
Although it can be charged while in use, the Lightning pass-through port does not allow the use of headphones. If you want audio, you must be wireless. Of course, Razer recommends their own Hammerhead wireless earbuds.
how do you feel?
All the buttons and fingertips on Kishi feel firm and satisfying. What I want to say is that when the joystick is pressed, the resistance of the joystick is slightly stronger than that of the Xbox One controller, and the touch is satisfactory.
The XYA and B buttons also have a satisfactory clicking effect when pressed, but they are not too loud to cause any interference. The d-pad is slightly softer, but I have no problems when using it.
The trigger doesn’t have super far pull, but it’s not bad. They are also not as smooth as most console controllers I have used. In a shooting environment with a fast trigger, this is not very obvious. However, when the trigger is triggered only slowly, the trigger on the left is not as smooth as the trigger on the right. But that is the only first-rate thing I can’t feel on Kishi.
Razer Kishi for iPhone: Game compatibility
Unfortunately, Kishi will not work with all games. Even some of the most popular games, such as PUBG Mobile, will not use Kishi’s input. However, for supported titles, Kishi is great. Any game that supports MFi (for iPhone) controllers can be used with Kishi immediately.
Exploration on Oceanhorn 2 is seamless and makes character control easier. In Asphalt 9: Legend, there is a fingertip that can control the steering, and can trigger boosters and drift, which makes driving on narrow roads and opponents easier.
Overall, Razer Kishi for iPhone is a powerful and easy-to-use mobile gaming accessory. If you want to gain an advantage, or just want to make iPhone gaming more like a console experience, then this is a good choice. The $99.99 price is not cheap, but the low-latency connection makes it a great choice for gaming.
