President Trump and first lady Melania Trump wished compatriots a Merry Christmas in their second holiday greetings issued by the White House on Friday.
In the statement, the first couple admitted that this Christmas “may look different from the past few years” but encouraged everyone to view this time as an opportunity to “express our sincere gratitude”.
“In this season of peace, we cherish warmth, generosity and faith to breathe life into our holiday gatherings. The statement reads that the love we share with family and friends fills our hearts with joy, just like the birth of Christ The story has inspired people all over the world.”
Holiday greetings thank the men and women in uniforms in the United States, and their families.
“For the military families who cannot celebrate Christmas together this year, our country sincerely appreciates your service and sacrifice. We are forever grateful to those who have the courage to wear uniforms to serve our country and those who walk with them side by side.”
The statement continued: “We are also grateful to our country’s first responders, law enforcement officers and front-line medical professionals who work tirelessly to serve and protect our communities. The noble principles we strive to follow, especially in this year’s special period.”
In closing, the two wish every American “Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Peace and Harmony”.
The first family spent Christmas at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. On Friday, the commander-in-chief played golf at his Trump International Golf Course.
It is not clear when the president will return to the White House, although he is expected to return to Washington on New Year’s Day.
