Playdate releases update on its portable console

Panic Inc. today released some new details about the upcoming portable game console Playdate as they are close to the release version. The developers of Panic Inc. released a new blog today to update the content of October 2020, which involves several items of portable console. Although it does explore many topics, we have provided you with some excerpts below, but it did not reveal all the upcoming games in Season 1 of its subscription service, nor did it give a release date. It only ignores the fact that pre-orders will happen sometime in 2021. We also saw the packaging, which is both beautiful and simple, just like the console itself. Therefore, when they came out, they worked hard for them.

Playdate first season locked

Guys, this is an amazing lineup. There is also good news: we spent extra time debugging More games in season one From more developers. Soon, in a special video update, we will reveal the name of each first season game! Please look forward to it. As a reminder, Playdate includes the first season. There is no additional cost.

Hardware lock

We have fine-tuned the crank. We have adjusted the plank. We have resolved some potential problems found in the early Developer Preview unit. The play date has been locked, and production can begin. (Unless we change it again.) And, after three months of paperwork, many days of intense travel, and two weeks of mandatory quarantine, Steven, our manufacturing expert in the US, came to Malaysia. He will supervise mass production in our factory next week and make sure everything is perfect.

Hardware certification

Using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at the same time, Playdate must be thoroughly tested to ensure that it operates within radio limits. We are gratified that since July, Playdate has fully passed the FCC certification (the curious is ID 2AR29-PDU01), and obtained the Japanese MIC certification and the European CE certification.

SDK improvements

For developers, we have been developing our SDK non-stop. This includes adding better conflict detection, web-based font creation tools, faster Lua performance using Lua 5.4, and higher parity between our Lua and C API. But the craziest SDK news? We have made Panic’s first Windows application! In addition to Mac, our Playdate Simulator is now up and running on Windows and Linux.
