OnePlus 8T is priced at US$749 and is another affordable product in the OnePlus product portfolio. Combining cutting-edge performance, 5G and a lower price than OnePlus 8 Pro, it has a lot to like. This phone is a bit more expensive than the company’s initial value proposition, but it is still a bargain compared to many priced flagship products on the market.
This is a comparison between OnePlus 8T and the old OnePlus phone, which can help you determine whether it is worth upgrading.
Our verdict: OnePlus 8T review
OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 6 and earlier
Iteration is the name of the game: OnePlus 5, 5T and 6 shown
If you are still using the original OnePlus phone, I will be impressed. However, I also strongly recommend that you consider upgrading. In recent years, smartphone hardware has developed rapidly, not just in terms of performance.

Customers with OnePlus 5 or older will benefit from a faster Snapdragon 865 processor, faster wired charging, in-display fingerprint scanner, faster 5G data, and smooth 120Hz refresh rate display. OnePlus 8T is better in every category, especially if you own a OnePlus 3 or 3T. Modern standards have eliminated older quad-core processors, slower memory settings, and aging single cameras.
However, if OnePlus 5 customers want more lifespan from their phones, they can spend another year. The phone’s hardware only really began to show its age this year. However, if you are after the fastest Android 11 update path, then choosing 8T is definitely the right choice.
OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 6 and 6T
If you are still running the 2018 OnePlus 6, you may not have the urgency of upgrading. After all, mobile phones have only been used for a few years. It is still a perfect smartphone with outstanding performance and reasonable design. However, even here, you should consider using 8T for a better camera, 5G network and some new features, such as a fingerprint reader in the display.

Compared with 8T’s 65W charging and 4,500mAh battery, OnePlus 6 is equipped with 20W Dash Charge and 3,300mAh battery. The decrease in battery life may cause the balance to tilt, so there is a tendency to buy new batteries. But the premise is that you can live without a headphone jack.
The OnePlus 6T is a very similar phone to the OnePlus 6, so it’s true to say whether it’s worth upgrading. If your 6T starts to be a bit sluggish or the battery is about to run out, then it is only worth the money to spend on the 8T.
OnePlus 8T vs. OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro
OnePlus’ 7 series is far from outdated, so it’s much harder to spend so much money on another phone. Here you will find a main camera similar to the 8T, sufficient performance and equivalent storage options. Although the latter comes with Android 11.
OnePlus 8T’s camera settings are more flexible than OnePlus 7, with a main lens, wide-angle lens, macro lens, and monochrome lens instead of the main sensor and depth sensor of 7. 65W charging is also faster than the 20W and 30W versions on the 7 and 7 Pro. The only really compelling reason to switch to OnePlus 8 is if you really want to use 5G. Although the current state of 5G deployment may limit its attractiveness at this stage.
Long-term review: OnePlus 7 Pro for one year
In other words, OnePlus 7 Pro actually provides some features that OnePlus 8T does not. Although the display has a 90Hz refresh rate, it still offers a QHD+ resolution that some people may prefer. In addition to the wide-angle lens, the OnePlus 7 Pro camera bag also has a telephoto zoom function. Therefore, it can be said that it is a more practical and flexible shooter, and OnePlus 8T does not have a more fancy lens.
Although some people may persuade themselves to switch from OnePlus 7 to 8T, the 7 Pro is difficult to prove.
OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro
With the faster Snapdragon 855 Plus processor, the performance gap between OnePlus 7T series and OnePlus 8T is even smaller. This series also has in-display fingerprint scanner, 90Hz display and 30W charging function. This is slightly behind the features of OnePlus 8T, but it is not completely different, and certainly not worth buying a brand new phone.

The biggest difference between phones can be found in the camera settings. Compared with the 8T’s more “artistic” four-camera setup, the 7T has more traditional main, telephoto and wide-angle settings. I think 7T and 7T Pro provide more useful camera bags, and I don’t recommend enthusiastic photographers to upgrade.
Again, the Pro model provides some additional features, so downgrading to 8T in some respects will degrade. OnePlus 7T Pro provides a QHD+ display and a pop-up selfie camera, which 8T does not have.
OnePlus 8T vs. OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro
I will give a simple answer here: No, if you own OnePlus 8, please don’t buy OnePlus 8T, if you own 8 Pro, absolutely don’t buy it. OnePlus’ T revision only made minor adjustments to earlier models, and the 8T has absolutely no revolutionary changes. All three also provide 5G connectivity, so you don’t need 8T to take full advantage of the network.

These phones share the ultra-fast Snapdragon 865 processor, large battery, UFS3.0 memory up to 256GB configuration and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. For 8T, 65W charging is a great benefit, but the 30W charging of the 8 series is still fast enough. The display from 8Hz to 8T is slightly upgraded from 90Hz to 120Hz, which is also a good choice, but there is no substantial improvement. Of course it’s not worth spending that much more 749 dollars so quickly.
In addition, OnePlus 8 Pro also has IP68 dust and water resistance rating, 120Hz display, wireless charging and excellent camera settings. The 8T is definitely a downgrade of the 8 Pro, and the 8 Pro is still the company’s flagship phone in 2020.
OnePlus 8T and OnePlus Nord
The price is £379/rupee. At $27,999, OnePlus Nord and OnePlus 8T are not in the same price category, but we will quickly introduce it. Given that these two phones are too new, I hope no one will consider switching from Nord to 8T.
Nord does not have the high-end features or performance of the OnePlus 8T, but the price is almost half of the latter. This makes it a more affordable entry point in the OnePlus 5G ecosystem. That’s right, you don’t need an 8 series OnePlus phone to use 5G.

Perhaps the more interesting question is whether OnePlus Nord or OnePlus 8T is a better upgrade option if you are going to shake an old OnePlus phone. Broadly speaking, Nord is a good choice for customers with limited budgets, and OnePlus 8T is suitable for customers who need flagship performance without going bankrupt.
Looking back at the OnePlus series, OnePlus 8T provides an excellent upgrade point for customers who have old phones. Its more affordable price point combined with high-end features strikes the right balance between the budget-friendly OnePlus Nord and the high-end OnePlus 8 Pro. If you have OnePlus 5 or older, you should definitely consider upgrading.

OnePlus 8T Better than OnePlus 8, but still not as good as OnePlus 8 Pro
OnePlus’ latest flagship product has undergone some relatively subtle upgrades relative to OnePlus 8. However, it does have a huge new feature: Warp Charge 65, which will make the 8T charge faster than any other OnePlus phone.
