Nick Saban won his sixth national championship in 14 seasons in Alabama on Monday night, thanks to a 52-24 victory over Ohio.
However, not all champions are created equal. In each case, the way to get there, the strength of the opponent and the composition of the roster are different.
The following is the ranking of Saban’s six Alabama national championship teams, ranked from “worst”
championship: Atlanta beat Georgia 26-23 in overtime
Key person; main force; important member: QB Tua Tagovailoa, QB Jalen Hurts, WR Calvin Ridley, OL Jonah Williams, OL Bradley Bozeman, DL Da’Ron Payne, LB Rashaan Evans, DB Minkah Fitzpatrick
Why rank sixth: Alabama’s 2017 team rankings are almost the best ever, but Tuscaloosa has a higher level. In Saban’s championship team alone, this 2017 regular season game lost double digits (Oban 26-14), and it took extra time to win the championship. In the end, it was the fabulous freshman class of the Crimson Tide who won the game because Tachovalova replaced the struggling trauma in the second half against Georgia and passed the winning touchdown in overtime. The ball was given to Devonta Smith, who won the Pacers championship.
5. 2012 (13-1)
championship: Beat Notre Dame 42-14 at Miami Gardens, Florida.
Key person; main force; important member: QB AJ McCarron, RB Eddie Lacy, WR Amari Cooper, OL Barrett Jones, OL Chance Warmack, DL Jesse Williams, LB CJ Mosley, DB Dee Milliner
Why rank fifth: The only repeat champion on the list was the 2012 Crimson Tide. He surpassed LSU (21-17 in Baton Rouge), defeated Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M (29-21 in Tuscaloosa), Stumbled all the way and won the SEC classic title game (Georgia 32-28) to reach the BCS National Championship. Facing an overrated Irish fighting team, Alabama led 28-0 at halftime and won the third national championship in four years. This is the team that made the “Dynasty” whisper a reality.
4. 2015 (14-1)
championship: Defeated Clemson 45-40 in Glendale, Arizona.
Key person; main force; important member: QB Jack Coker (JB Coker), RB Derrick Henry (RB Derrick Henry), OL Cam Robinson (OL Cam Robinson), OL Ryan Kelly (OL Ryan Kelly), DL Jonathan Allen (DL Jonathan Allen), LB Reggie Ragland (LB Reggie Ragland), DB Eddie Jackson (Eddie Jackson), DB Marlon Humphrey (DB Marlon Humphrey)
Why rank fourth: Attacked by Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry, and has the amazing ability to score non-offensive touchdowns (10 total). The defeat in the first two seasons made critics wonder whether Saban lost After getting his touch, this Alabama team returned to the top. Red Tide stumbled at the beginning of the season (losing to Miss Ole 43-37), but ended the game with 12 consecutive victories. The victory over Clemson has always been a classic. At the most important moment of the plan, Kenyan Drake unexpectedly got an unexpected chance to score and kick-off.
3. 2011 (12-1)
championship: Defeated LSU 21-0 in New Orleans
Key person; main force; important member: QB AJ McCarron, RB Trent Richardson, OL Barrett Jones, LB Dont’a Hightower, LB Courtney Upshaw, DB Mark Barron, DB Dre Kirkpatrick, DB DeQuan Menzie
Why rank third: This Alabama team is one of the greatest defenses in modern college football history, contributing only 8.2 points per game and only five opponents scored in double figures. The offense sometimes struggled, including a loss in the Crimson Tide, a 9-6 overtime victory over LSU in Tuscaloosa-known as the “War of the Century”. Alabama returned to its image as a national champion in a controversial way, and shot again at LSU, this time defeating New Orleans’ Superdome 21-0 to win the championship.
2. 2009 (14-0)
championship: Beat Texas 37-21 in Pasadena, California.
Key person; main force; important member: QB Greg McElroy, RB Mark Ingram, WR Julio Jones, OL Mike Johnson, DL Terrence Cody, DL Marcell Dareus, LB Rolando McClain, DB/KR Javier Arenas
Why rank second: The Saban team is the beginning of all this, until this year, this is the only team with a perfect record. Alabama was in chaos early in the regular season and survived a 12-10 victory over Tennessee in late October. During this run, this Red Wave team may be stronger than any other team, ranking first in the SEC Championship game and defending the national championship Florida 32-13, and then beating undefeated and second in the BCS National The Texas 37-21 Rose Bowl Championship champion.
1. 2020 (13-0)
championship: Defeated Ohio State University 52-24 in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Key person; main force; important member: QB Mac Jones, RB Najee Harris, WR DeVonta Smith, OL Landon Dickerson, OL Alex Leatherwood, LB Christian Harris, LB Dylan Moses, DB Patrick Surtain
Why rank first: It’s hard to overstate what Alabama has achieved in 2020. Not only did it remain undefeated and won the national championship, but also trailed only once in the second half of the season (against Georgia) and defeated 11 SEC teams. (The best 11) facts) and go all out in the global pandemic. Crimson Tide tied the record with five national players and won the Heisman Trophy (the other two ranked in the top five in the voting). This is the best team in Saban, and it may be the best team in Alabama history, which may lead to a recency bias.
