New York City officials hope to vaccinate 1

million residents with the Covid-19 vaccine in January. They say the federal government and drugmakers need to speed up the production and distribution of the vaccine.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Thursday that the city will use schools, pop-up clinics and “everything needed” to reach 1 million people within this month.

de Blasio told CNN: “We know that New York City can vaccinate 1 million people in January, and it does bring this to a climax.” “Whenever we vaccinate someone, it has a terrible impact on society. In general, we are one step closer to making the coronavirus a thing of the past.”

IAccording to the city’s data, considering that the city only received 390,425 doses of vaccine and only about 78,000 shots, this is an ambitious goal.

The mayor said: “This incident has not changed the way it needs to be in the United States.” “New York City will show that we can start this process and vaccinate people at a record speed. We want to see the entire country participating. Among them, because if we need to fight the coronavirus faster, we want to recover.”

The US government is far from reaching its original goal of injecting at least 20 million Covid vaccines by the end of the year-which federal officials admit is disappointing. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, so far, the United States has distributed 12.4 million doses of vaccine, and only two injections of Pfizer or Moderna have been vaccinated from 2.8 million people. US officials said the data was delayed by 72 to 96 hours due to delays in the report at the state and local levels. Even so, it is still only a small part of the Trump administration’s original goals.

“We agree that this number is lower than our expectations,” Moncef Slaoui, the chief adviser of the U.S. government vaccine program’s “Warp Speed” operation, told reporters on Wednesday. “We know it should be better, and We are working hard to make it better.”

De La Blasio said the federal government needs to mobilize all its resources to produce the vaccine on a large scale.

De Blasio’s announcement comes as the city is preparing for the annual New Year’s Eve celebration, although there is no ordinary crowd. There are only 200 people wearing masks, instead of the usual thousands, they wear masks and are invited to play at 12 midnight in 2021. De Blasio said that the one thing that unified all Americans in this divided country this year is “we want to get rid of the hell of 2020.”
