New Panhandle COVID cases jump 321 in 3 days

Health officials urge all Panhandle residents to be extra careful during Halloween events over the weekend because of the surge in confirmed new cases in the past few days.

Since last Monday, October 26, the Unified Command has confirmed 321 COVID cases in Panhandle and 129 have recovered, bringing the number of active cases to 879, including 52 hospitalizations.

When asked whether the regional risk dial will turn red or the extreme spread category, Panhandle Public Health District Director Kim Engel said she is not sure, but the rapid rise in this number represents a significant increase, “not only the number of cases” , But the number of hospitalizations. What I want to say is, if it didn’t seem to be true before, it’s true now. I think for many of us, it’s been true for a long time.”

Officials advise everyone to follow the 3-C standard for critical safety precautions:

  1. Crowded place: Avoid gatherings in people who cannot keep 6 feet away from others.
  2. Close contact: Wear a mask or keep a distance of 6 feet when you are with people who cannot live.
  3. hermetic space: Avoid enclosed spaces with poor ventilation.
