Lincoln, Nebraska (KOLN)-The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed the state’s first case of COVID-19 with a British variant.
This person is a woman in her 20s and a resident of Douglas County.
“The state has long stated that we suspect that these new variants of this virus are spreading in Nebraska, and we have been vigilant in genome sequencing work to quickly identify new variants to slow the spread. Insider, alienation and Vaccination is still our best defense against these new variants.”
This particular variant has been found in 45 other states and is more easily spread, but both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have shown to be effective against this variant.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is expected to be approved soon, has also been proven effective for this vaccine.
The case investigation and contact tracing began within 24 hours after the laboratory test was positive and are ongoing.
