The first commercial flight of Boeing’s troubled 737 Max plane flew from Miami to LaGuardia Airport in New York on Tuesday morning, almost two years after the plane was grounded globally.
After the Indonesian Lions and Lions air crash in October 2018 killed 189 people and the Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed all 157 people on board five months later, Max was banned in March 2019.
American Airlines Flight 718 departed Miami International Airport at 10:30 am on Tuesday morning. The airline plans to fly the Max plane from Miami to New York, and then back to January 4, and then add more routes.

In September, an investigation by the US House of Representatives attributed the accident to “repetitive and severe failures” by Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration.

However, not all passengers share this confidence. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that 57% of Americans said they were unlikely to fly on a Boeing 737 Max when they were told the history of the plane.
The airline said all passengers on the largest US flights will be warned and can choose to rebook.
American Airlines Chief Operating Officer David Seymour said: “Our commitment to all customers who rely on us is that if you take a 737 Max and you don’t want to fly, we will allow you to make changes.”
Boeing is still facing dozens of unlawful death lawsuits from victims’ families about the safety issues that led to the crash. The new findings issued by the Senate Commerce Committee on Friday found that Boeing had a series of failures in its recertification work. The families of the victims of the Ethiopian crash urged regulators to ground the plane.
