The terminal at Daytona Beach International Airport was cleared Friday morning after a naked man told the deputy that he had put a bomb in a bathroom, said Mike Chitwood, Sheriff of Volusia County.
Bomb units raided the airport and found no evidence of a bomb Said Chitwood.
A fully-dressed man entered the airport before 6 am and went into a women's toilet that was under construction, the sheriff said. He took off his clothes, put them in a backpack and stuffed them into a hole in the alley, Chitwood said.
He jumped on a baggage carousel and tried to get on the asphalt when MPs used a Taser, Chitwood said. When he was detained, the suspect told the deputies that they had to leave the airport.
"I planted a bomb in the bathroom," said Chitwood, the suspect said to the deputies.
The suspect is known by law enforcement and previously was kept under the Baker Act of the state, Chitwood said. The Baker Act is a Florida law that allows someone to be held temporarily for a mental rating.
The suspect is being examined at the Halifax Health Medical Center at Daytona Beach, Chitwood said.
