Microsoft will release its own Windows file recovery tool, which is designed to retrieve files that you accidentally deleted. Windows File Recovery is a command-line application that will recover various files and documents from a local hard drive, USB drive or even from the camera’s SD card. However, it does not support restoring files in cloud storage or network file sharing.
As with any file recovery tool, you need to use it on deleted files as soon as possible to ensure that they are not overwritten. You will be able to use Microsoft’s new tools to recover MP3 files, MP4 videos, PDF documents, JPEG images and typical Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.
Microsoft’s file recovery tool has a default mode and is mainly used for the NTFS file system. It will recover files from damaged disk or formatted disk. The second signature mode may be a more popular option, which allows users to recover specific file types across FAT, exFAT and ReFS file systems. This signature mode may also take longer to retrieve files.
Windows File Recovery is a useful tool for anyone who accidentally deletes important documents or accidentally wipes the drive clean. Microsoft has provided the “previous version” feature in Windows 10, which allows you to recover documents that may have been deleted, but you must use the “File History” feature that is disabled by default to specifically enable this feature.
